DEX Polycon Products MATERIAL DATA

Polyolefins are high molecular weight hydrocarbons. They include high-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, linear low-density polyethylene and polypropylene, amongst others. All are break resistant, non-toxic, and non-contaminating. They easily withstand exposure to a wide range of chemicals at room temperature. Strong oxidising agents eventually cause embrittlement. These are the only plastics lighter than water.

Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) combines the toughness of low density polyethylene with the rigidity of high-density polyethylene.
High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) has minimal branching, which makes it more rigid and permeable than LLDPE.
Polypropylene (PP) is similar to polyethylene, but is slightly more vulnerable than polyethylene to strong oxidising agents. Products made of polypropylene become brittle close to 0°C and are more susceptible to damage at these low temperatures.
